Sustainability

At its core, Jacquie Starr is made in Melbourne Australia on the designer’s principle desires to support local and small independent businesses. The brand strives to source materials responsibly, create products with care, and design with the wearer’s values and lifestyle in mind.

Design Process

Jacquie Starr design process is built around challenging consumerism and over-consumption by creating classically designed pieces that remain relevant even in our ever changing world. We consciously avoid trends that feel temporary or fleeting in favour of an aesthetic which is more lyrical, imaginative and long-lasting.

Sustainability

We are committed to creating our designs with as little impact on our environment.

We are inspired by our future and we take responsibility for prioritising recycled materials in the pieces we make and working in a manner that is considered and mindful. Jacquie Starrs' pieces are designed to last a lifetime and created with a sculptural aesthetic that -  goes beyond seasons and trends - while aspiring to be permanently relevant in a changing world. All our gold and silver jewellery is made from either refined recycled metals or from suppliers that follow the strict guideline in accordance with the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council). The Code of Practices are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Recycled Silver & Gold

We use recycled metals processed by refiners that adopt the best sustainable practices possible. Our metals are then created by expert metalsmiths that simply melt down existing silver or gold to give a result that looks and feels exactly the same as new metal just without the same environmental impact. Using recycled silver reduces CO2 emissions by two thirds compared to mined silver this helps to slow the consumption of natural resources, reduces water usage, and reduces the environmental impact of mining.

18k Gold Plating

Our 18k gold pieces are made in sterling silver and plated in two layers of 18k gold. Over time, gold plated jewellery will naturally fade due to the various levels of acid and salt in its wearer’s skin.

To extend the life of gold plating, avoid wearing when washing hands, showering, applying lotion, using harsh cleaning supplies or exercising. To clean, buff gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth or a microfiber cloth. Do not use jewellery cleaner or a polishing cloth on plated jewellery as this will buff off the 18k gold layer.

If you notice your 18k plated jewellery losing its colour, we offer a replating service at our workshop for a small fee. Please contact our customer care team at info@jacquiestarr.com.au for a quote.

Our business only aligns with companies where we are able to trace the entire life cycle of its products. Beginning with the responsible sourcing, refining and inputs from conflict free areas and throughout the processing of all our materials and gems.
