Caring for your silver jewellery

Silver jewellery that is regularly used typically needs less care, so we encourage you to wear and enjoy your silver jewellery every day.

Sterling silver will tarnish over time, and should be polished occasionally with a soft polishing cloth. Do not use silver dip polish to clean your jewellery as it may give an immediate and shiny effect, but will also corrode the surface, making it tarnish faster and over time ruin the jewellery.

For the longevity of your jewellery please store yours in the pouch or box provided with your purchase when you are cleaning or swimming or using anything harsh like chlorine, sulphur, household bleach and other strong chemicals.

Some of our jewellery pieces have an oxidised finish. This finish is deliberate and exaggerates crevices to make the decorative details stand out more clearly. The finish can be removed by cleaning and polishing too much.

18k Gold Plating

Our 18k gold pieces are made in sterling silver and plated in two layers of 18k yellow gold. Over time, gold plated jewellery will naturally fade due to the various levels of acid and salt in its wearer’s skin.

To extend the life of gold plating, avoid wearing when washing hands, showering, applying lotion, using harsh cleaning supplies or exercising. To clean, buff gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth or a microfiber cloth. Do not use jewellery cleaner or a polishing cloth on plated jewellery as this will buff off the 18k gold layer.

If you notice your 18k plated jewellery losing its colour, we offer a replating service at our workshop for a small fee. Please contact our customer care team at info@jacquiestarr.com.au for a quote.
